Student Support Services Department

“Quality of Education and Equity for All Students” describes the Multinational School Dhahran’s vision . To meet this challenge, the Learning Support staff is committed to ensuring high-quality services for all students through our continuous efforts in the following areas:

  • Protecting the rights of individuals with learning difficulties
  • Educating students with learning difficulties with their “typical developing” peers in the general education classroom
  • Treating all students equally, regardless of their abilities
  • Supporting students in the major academic areas (e.g. English and Math)
  • Building our teaching strategies on evidence-based-research and best practices
  • Implementing instructional strategies that are founded on Applied Behaviour Analysis (e.g. chaining, shaping, task analysis, etc.)
  • Designing and implementing the Individual Education Plan and enrichment programs
  • Utilising assessments to monitor student progress on a daily basis, measure program effectiveness, and guide instructional practices
  • Simplifying/modifying the curriculum into more accessible formats in order to meet the student’s individual needs
  • Differentiating instruction that addresses the diverse learning needs of the students.
  • Empowering students and supporting them to reach their full potential academically, socially, and behaviourally
  • Promoting the students’ independence and productivity
  • Improving the students self-efficacy, well-being and self-esteem
  • Teaching students stress/anger management strategies
  • Utilising the technology, library and media/environmental resources to support teaching and learning
  • Promoting meaningful parent involvement to strengthening home-school partnership

Team

The Learning Support Team consists of a group of certified, highly experienced, qualified, and well-trained learning specialists, teachers, and assistants. They collaborate with parents, home/subject teachers, and community professionals to meet the students’ individual needs and to craft the first steppingstone in their brighter future.

Assessments

Assessment specialists assess the students’ performance in order to identify their strengths, needs, Present Level of Performance (PLOP), and learning style. The types of assessments are:

  • Curriculum Based Assessment (CBA)
  • Standardized Assessments
  • WellComm, The British Picture Vocabulary Scale
  • CAT 4
  • York of Reading
  • Suffolk Reading Scale 2
  • Sandwell Early Numeracy
  • Single Word Spelling.
  • Informal assessment (In/out classroom observations)
